AD vs BC: Understanding the Difference

AD (Anno Domini) / CE (Common Era)

Years in AD count forward from Year 1. For example, 2024 comes after 2023. It represents the "Common Era".

BC (Before Christ) / BCE (Before Common Era)

Years in BC count backward. The higher the number, the further back in history. For example, 500 BC happened before 100 BC. There is no "Year 0".

Pro Tip: Our calculator handles both AD and BC dates, accurately computing the spans across the transition period.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How does the calculator handle leap years?

Our chronological engine accounts for the specific number of days in every calendar year, including leap years (366 days), ensuring that your total days, hours, and seconds are 100% accurate.

Q What is the difference between Rasi (Moon Sign) and Sun Sign?

Your Sun Sign (Western Zodiac) is determined by the position of the Sun at your birth, which changes roughly once a month. Your Rasi (Vedic Moon Sign) is determined by the position of the Moon, which changes every 2.5 days and represents your emotional and subconscious self in Vedic astrology.

Q Why does my age on other planets differ so much from Earth?

A planet’s year is defined by the time it takes to complete one full orbit around the Sun. For example, Mercury orbits the Sun very quickly (every 88 Earth days), so you are much "older" in Mercury years. Neptune takes 165 Earth years to complete one orbit, so you are only a small fraction of a year old on Neptune.

Q What are chronological life milestones?

Chronological milestones are significant mathematical markers in your life, such as reaching 10,000 days of life (which occurs around age 27.4) or 1,000 weeks of life (around age 19.1). Our calculator automatically computes these and tells you when they occurred or when they will happen.

Q Can I calculate the age of historical figures born in BC?

Yes! By toggling the "BC" switch on the birth date input, the calculator adjusts its mathematical formulas to account for the BC timeline, including the historical transition from 1 BC directly to 1 AD (as there is no year 0).
