Grow-a-Fish: Reef Predator is an underwater marine survival and evolution arcade game where players navigate a small reef fish through a vibrant ocean ecosystem. The core gameplay loop follows the classic aquatic food chain: consume smaller fish, plankton, and micro-pellets to accumulate bio-mass and scale up in size, while dodging predatory species large enough to swallow you whole. As your mass reaches evolutionary milestones, your species morphs into larger apex predators with expanded vision, higher swimming velocity, and the capability to hunt creatures that once pursued you.

The reef environment runs on a live 60-FPS physics engine simulating ocean currents, momentum drag, schooling behaviors, and predator patrol routines. Unlike static obstacle games, every organism in the simulated reef possesses independent artificial intelligence routines: smaller prey dart evasively when approached, peer-sized fish maintain cautious clearance, and apex predators actively sweep the perimeter to corner vulnerable players against the screen boundaries.

Prioritize Perimeter Grazing Early

During Tier 1 and Tier 2, the center of the aquarium reef is high-risk open water where fast-moving snappers and barracudas frequently crisscross. The highest-percentage survival strategy is hugging the outer boundaries and rocky coral outcrops, systematically consuming algae spores and stationary plankton until reaching Tier 2 mass.

Use Kinetic Dash Sparingly

Triggering the speed dash allows emergency evasions when a predator closes in, but expends valuable stamina and can propel your fish into unseen hazards off-screen. Only activate the dash when a predator enters your immediate reaction perimeter, and never dash blindly toward the screen edges.

Predict Schooling Swarms

Prey organisms travel in dense schooling clusters. Rather than chasing individual scattering fish, maneuver ahead of the lead group to intercept their path. Consuming three to four prey in rapid succession builds an active combo streak that multiplies incoming mass by up to 3x, accelerating your progression toward apex predator status.
