Overview & Capabilities

Welcome to the modernized adaptation of the classic Game & Watch handheld "Manhole" arcade game. Take on the role of the cover coordinator in the center. Your mission is to position the manhole cover under the feet of the walker creatures as they cross the platforms. Dodge the penalties by catching every walker. Switch between Retro LCD, Neon Synth, and Toy Wood skins, and challenge your reflexes across Game A and Game B difficulty presets.

Tutorial

How to Use

01
Position the manhole cover at one of the four holes: Top-Left, Bottom-Left, Top-Right, or Bottom-Right.
02
Steer the cover using direct keyboard shortcuts (Q for Top-Left, A for Bottom-Left, P for Top-Right, L for Bottom-Right) or directional keys (Arrows/WASD).
03
Watch the walkers marching from both sides of the screen along the upper and lower tracks.
04
Move the cover to the matching corner right as a walker steps over the open pit to let them cross safely.
05
Earn points for each walker that successfully exits the screen. Avoid letting any walker fall, as 3 misses will end the game.

Tips & Best Practices

💡
Use direct hotkeys (Q, A, P, L) instead of directional arrows for faster reaction times at high speeds.
💡
Watch the walker silhouettes closely on the tracks. Walkers on the upper track need top covers, and those on the lower track need bottom covers.
💡
Pay close attention to Hesitant walkers. They stop for 500ms right before the hole, so don't rush the cover there too early if another walker is about to step.
💡
Aim for 300 points! Reaching it will reset all your missed penalties, giving you a fresh start to continue building your high score.
💡
Practice on Game A to learn the track layout and transition to Game B for maximum concurrent speed challenges.
Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do you control the manhole cover in the game?

On desktop, use direct hotkeys: Q (Top-Left), A (Bottom-Left), P (Top-Right), and L (Bottom-Right). You can also use standard Directional arrows (Left/Right shifts sides, Up/Down changes levels). On mobile, tap the large virtual corner buttons positioned around the arcade console.

Q What is the difference between Game A and Game B?

Game A is the standard mode where walkers spawn at a moderate pace, mostly one side at a time, up to 3 concurrent walkers. Game B is the advanced double-lane mode where walkers spawn concurrently from both left and right directions, ramping up to 5 walkers at much higher speeds.

Q What happens when a walker falls into a hole?

If a walker steps onto an open hole where the cover is missing, they fall in and make a splash. This records one "miss" (penalty). You start with 3 lives; getting 3 misses results in a Game Over.

Q How does the 300-point mercy rule work?

Replicating the original Game & Watch mechanics, if you manage to reach exactly 300 points (or multiples like 600 points), any misses/penalties you have accumulated are completely reset back to zero, allowing you to survive longer.

Q Do all walkers move at the same speed?

No. The game features three walker behaviors: normal walkers that march at standard speed, Turbo runners that move at 1.5x speed, and Hesitant stutters that pause briefly before stepping over the hole, requiring careful timing.
