๐Ÿ‘พ RETRO HERITAGE (1982 DOS)

Released in 1982 by Greg Kuperberg, Paratrooper is one of the most famous games of the early MS-DOS era. The game was an adaptation of the 1981 Apple II game Sabotage, created by Mark Allen.

This modernized version features the classic shooting constraints alongside upgraded neon cyberpunk visuals, military camo themes, and synthesized real-time retro sounds.

Overview & Capabilities

Welcome to the NexTools Paratrooper Defense Studio. This is a modernized, high-performance HTML5 Canvas adaptation of the legendary 1982 DOS arcade shooter. As the commander of a stationary anti-aircraft turret, your mission is to defend your outpost from waves of incoming helicopters dropping paratroopers and fast bombers releasing target-seeking shells. Balance your ammunition carefullyโ€”since every shot costs a pointโ€”and shoot down the paratroopers before they can execute a coordinated ground siege.

Tutorial

How to Use

01
Rotate the anti-aircraft gun barrel to aim at incoming targets. Use your mouse cursor, screen touches, keyboard steering, or gamepad analog sticks.
02
Fire shells at helicopters, bombers, bombs, or paratroopers descending under parachutes.
03
Target the paratroopers parachutes to make them fall to their deathโ€”splatting on the ground eliminates them from the invasion tally.
04
Avoid letting 4 paratroopers land safely on either the left or right side of your base. If 4 land on one side, they will build a human ladder to climb and detonate your turret.
05
Dodge or shoot down bombs dropped by jets. A single bomb contact will instantly destroy your turret.

Tips & Best Practices

๐Ÿ’ก
Prioritize helicopters! Shooting a helicopter kills it and any paratroopers still on board.
๐Ÿ’ก
Be careful with your ammunition. Since firing a shell costs 1 point, spraying bullets blindly will lower your high score.
๐Ÿ’ก
If a paratrooper gets too close to the ground, aim for their parachute. The fall will kill them, and they wonโ€™t count towards the ground tally.
๐Ÿ’ก
Keep an eye on both the left and right sides. If 3 troopers land on one side, the next landing will trigger the emergency scramble alarm!
Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q What is the history of the Paratrooper game?

Paratrooper is a classic MS-DOS arcade game released in 1982 by Greg Kuperberg. It was directly inspired by Sabotage (1981), a popular Apple II game created by Mark Allen. It is widely considered one of the defining games of the early PC gaming era.

Q Why does my score decrease when I shoot my gun?

In the classic game rules, firing a bullet costs exactly 1 point. This mechanic was designed to reward players for precise aiming and accuracy rather than continuous firing. Hitting a paratrooper gives you 5 points, yielding a net profit of 4 points.

Q What happens if a paratrooper lands on the ground?

Paratroopers who land safely on the ground will stand wait. If 4 paratroopers land on the left side or 4 land on the right side of your base, they will form a human ladder, climb up to your turret, and detonate it, resulting in a Game Over.

Q How does the scramble alarm grace period work?

In this modernized version, when the 4th paratrooper lands on either side, a visual/audio scramble state is triggered, providing a 2-second emergency window. If you can shoot down one of the ground troopers before the timer expires, the ladder collapses, saving your turret.

Q Can I shoot the bombs dropped by jet bombers?

Yes! Jet bombers fly across the screen dropping target-seeking bombs that head straight for your turret. Shooting a bomb out of the air awards 30 points. If a bomb hits your turret, it results in an immediate explosion and Game Over.
